Damn, I’ve really sucked at this blog thing. I spent countless hours getting this site set up and doing all kinds of research on professional blogging, and for a month or so I made myself rigorous weekly calendars of tasks to complete each day to get the site fully up and running. Then, like many projects in my life, I got busy with something else and slowly let it die. At least once a week I’d proclaim, “I’m going to update my blog soon!” or “I already have a big list of posts for my blog”. I even put “Update Blog” on my weekly to-do list over and over again. Imagine my horror when I log in and realize my last post was in August 2016….shit. I have had a pretty busy and exciting year, but I won’t try to make excuses. And to be completely honest, a big part of it was being pregnant and simply not feeling like doing anything productive at all. But as I don’t plan on being pregnant again this year, I’ll just resolve to do better!
With so much time away from my first few posts, I have been having a difficult time deciding where to begin again. So I figured I’d start with a simple post vaguely outlining what I have been up to (i.e. what other projects and hobbies I’ve let die), and some teasers for future (hopefully not another year off) posts.
Alright, let’s address the big one first. Just over a month ago, the hubs and I welcomed our first daughter into the world. When I started out on a blogging journey, I grimaced at the words “mommy blogger” and swore that would never be my focus….probably because I wasn’t a human mommy. I mean I even gave my sister a hard time for hash tagging jokes on Instagram with “#momhumor” or “#mommylife”: “You know, people other than moms would find that funny too”, I’d say with one of my infamous eye rolls. Yet again I was thrown off my high horse in realizing all of the feelings, challenges, and rewards that being a new mom brings into the fold. I plan on sharing in vivid [and sometimes disgusting] detail my experience with conceiving, pregnancy, labor and delivery, and parenting.
This year, Hubs and I made one of my life-long dreams come true and took a 19-day trip through Europe. It was many parts what I always thought it would be, and some parts what I hadn’t predicted. After all, I never thought I’d take my dream vacation while five months pregnant, but life has funny timing like that. The planning and organizing was nuts, but the experience definitely unforgettable. Aside from that biggest trip, I’ve got more trips to New Orleans, California, and Texas day trips to talk about.
For some reason, Hubs decided that a few months before welcoming a human into this world would be perfect timing to complete some new home renovations. (I think he was nesting). As is the case with many home projects around here, there were several pitfalls that were shocking and infuriating at the time, but we can now look back and laugh at in between cursing all the involved parties.
It’s been a busy year in my work life. I won’t even attempt to pretend that what I do is remotely interesting to anyone other than myself, so don’t worry. I do, however, know that being both a woman and a Millennial (ugh, I hate that title) in the corporate world brings about it’s own challenges to success. Be on the lookout for some posts on surviving that life.
I think the last year has provided more than enough meat to post about, so let’s hope I can at least get through a quarter of it before new crazy life adventures happen!
